Tidewater May 2008

Tidewater Area Private Schools Area Meeting
May 22, 2008

The Tidewater area held their DAC meeting on Thursday, May 22nd at St. Pius X School.  There were 69 people in attendance.

Tenille Cyphers, a librarian from the Pretlow Library in Norfolk was the guest speaker.  She told the families about the newly built and opened library in Ocean View.  The entire 2nd floor of the library is devoted to children with a toddler area, computer area, elementary area and teen area.  Ms. Cyphers told the group about the summer reading program "Catch the Reading Bug!".  She invited all of the families to come to the library this summer.

After introducing the group to the new library, Ms. Cyphers read the children two interactive books and gave out handouts about the summer reading program.

The highlight of the evening came at the end when adults and children were invited to participate in the Title I book swap.  Teachers, students and parents had brought in books to swap for summer reading.  Everyone in attendance at the DAC meeting was encouraged to take a book or two home for summer reading.  The book swap was the hit of the night!
